Founder of Dental Financial Partners

Abdul Hamdan
Founder

Before founding Dental Financial Partners, I built a startup dental office from the ground up, taking it from $0 to a high revenue practice in its first 12 months (and continuing to grow since). I worked nearly every position in the practice (except the dentists), which gave me a real understanding of what it takes to run a dental business day in and day out. I know the stress of staff management, patient management, the long hours, and the constant balancing act of keeping a practice both profitable and people focused, all while raising kids and caring for my family.

Over the years, I’ve invested more than 10,000 hours running and advising dental practices. That experience revealed an unmet need: dentists don’t just need tax preparation, they need a trusted advisor who can keep them compliant, analyze financials, uncover inefficiencies, and help plan for growth and long-term wealth.

As an Enrolled Agent (EA), licensed by the IRS, and a Registered Investment Adviser (RIA) with a Series 65 license, I combine advanced tax expertise with fiduciary investment guidance to my clients. Since founding Dental Financial Partners, I’ve had the privilege of serving many dentists as their tax and wealth advisor. My goal is simple: to combine my firsthand experience with financial expertise to help dentists not only stay on top of their taxes but also increase profitability, optimize cash flow, and build long-term wealth.

Credentials

  • Enrolled Agent (EA) IRS-Licensed Tax Professional, the highest credential awarded by the IRS, requiring extensive knowledge of U.S. tax law and the authority to represent clients before the IRS.

  • Registered Investment Adviser (RIA) – Series 65 licensed, providing fiduciary investment guidance.

  • Two advanced degrees in Engineering, providing a strong foundation in problem-solving, systems thinking, and data analysis.

  • Completed advanced coursework in accounting and taxation, with over 10,000 hours of hands-on experience managing and advising dental practices.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What makes Dental Financial Partners different from a traditional accounting firm?

Dental Financial Partners combines tax, accounting, and financial guidance with hands-on dental industry experience.

We focus on more than preparing tax returns and keeping your books current. We help dentists understand their numbers, plan ahead, reduce taxes, improve cash flow, and make better financial decisions throughout the life of their practice.

Our services include:

Our goal is to give dentists a clearer financial picture and help them make better decisions before opportunities or problems arise.

2. What types of dentists do you work with?

We work with dentists at different stages of their careers, including:

  • Associates preparing for ownership

  • Dentists starting a practice

  • Dentists evaluating a practice acquisition

  • Established practice owners

  • Dentists preparing to sell or transition their practice

The advice changes depending on where you are in your career and what you are trying to accomplish.

3. Why work with a dental-focused financial and tax advisor?

Dental practices have financial concerns that are different from many other small businesses.

Production, collections, staffing, overhead, equipment purchases, practice debt, associate compensation, real estate, and eventual practice transitions can all affect both the practice and the owner's personal finances. Understanding the dental business allows us to look beyond the tax return and help you make decisions with the bigger picture in mind.

4. Can you help me analyze a dental practice before I buy it?

Yes. This is a core service. We evaluate:

  • True cash flow, not just seller add-backs

  • Debt impact and affordability

  • Tax implications of the transaction

  • Practice overhead and financial performance

  • Whether the opportunity makes financial sense for you

5. Do you provide bookkeeping and tax filing, or just planning?

We provide all three so your bookkeeping, tax preparation, and planning can work together.

Services include:

Instead of looking at your finances only when a tax return is due, we can identify issues and planning opportunities throughout the year.

6. How do you help dentists reduce taxes legally?

Tax planning is individualized based on your practice, income, goals, and financial situation.

Strategies may include:

The objective is not simply to file an accurate return. It is to make informed tax decisions throughout the year.

7. Do you coordinate tax planning with financial planning and investments?

Yes. When appropriate, we coordinate with Groundwork Financial Partners for investment management, retirement planning, and long-term wealth strategy.

This allows tax decisions, practice finances, and personal financial planning to be considered together rather than independently.

8. When should I start working with a tax and financial advisor?

Ideally, before making a major financial decision.

This can include:

  • Starting a practice → Dental Practice Start-Ups

  • Purchasing major equipment or real estate

  • Expanding or adding partners

  • Making significant changes to compensation or entity structure

  • Preparing for a practice purchase → Practice Acquisition

Planning before a transaction usually creates more options than trying to address the tax and financial consequences afterward.

9. Is Dental Financial Partners only for high-income dentists?

No. The value of planning often increases as income and financial complexity grow, but you do not need to reach a particular income level to benefit.

We commonly work with dentists who own a practice, are preparing for ownership, or associates who want a more proactive approach to their taxes and finances.
